Two.

Read. Consider. Apply.

The human race is intelligent. There is no denying that our progression and playful habbits with nature is something that provokes intense amazement, even alone as a fact. We have figured out how to communicate at a distance, carry music around, capture sights onto moving and still film.. Anything under the electronic genre is a result from taking what nature allows us to do, or what we decide it should do. One thing that does bother me, however, is the mystic spell it casts on people. The way they are grasped by it and driven forward and follow an all time record speed of developement. The boom in technological progress within recent human history is unfathomable. It is our addiction, our natural tendancy towards curiousity. There is no need to deny it. The problem lies in what these tools distract us from. These are the beauties that exist in a seemingly dull host. The world around us. How often are we amazed by the cause and effect of wind and waves, smells that recall memories, countless sounds overlapping, or ink in water?

The argument can also be reversed. Nature is a complex formation that we as humans are not even able to understand. Our inability to comprehend the relation of everything in the universe, including ourselves, rubs up on us. Unanswerable questions will never exhaust our curiousity. What happens when somebody becomes obsessed with these things? They become consumed in a world that they are still trying to construct. They drift out of the times that we live in, deny technology because it is only natural through the hands of men. It shouldn't be this way. It is the very fact these tools can be created that is so deserving of thought. That they may exist, provided by the Laws of the univers.

Both extremities feel humans are seperate from the rest of the universe. Whether this be because we no longer live so personally off of the earth, or because we will not accept an advancement through the non-living, doesn't make a difference.

Where do you stand? I will not deny that I often change my state of mind to fit into either of these two catagories. There is no solid place that can be called "more real" than another, but both of these options deny the other. A balance needs to be made in order to unify them.

  1. In my opinion, everything from smacking your lips for moisture to thermal op. warfare, using the fine tip of a fingernail to get at an itch to virtual reality video games is a legitimate technology, I'd say the only problem on the horizon is repetition and the physical/psychological dependencies that stem from them.
